A beautifully portrayed and understated view of life in urban Uruguay, which has both poignant and comic moments. The monotony of daily life is broken when a brother comes to stay from Brazil and the main character asks one of the workers in his sock factory to move into his flat and pretend to be his wife, to impress this brother. The three of them go on holiday together to an old-fashioned coastal resort where some long-buried issues between the two brothers are resolved, helped by the long-suffering sock worker.
A charming film by Juan Pablo Rebella about life in the time warp of urban Uruguay, with hints of directors Aki Kaurismaki and Jim Jarmusch.
