Salvador
Salvador, the capital of Bahia state, overlooks the vast Todos os Santos bay. The city is split into two levels connected by lifts and a network of steep back streets which lead up to the Pelourinho, with some of the best-preserved colonial architecture in the Americas. It has numerous interesting churches and the rich cultural heritage of the African-influenced religion, candomblé.

There is a small pool overlooking the bay and a good restaurant, open to the public, which serves a fusion of Bahian and French food. At the top of the hotel, there is a lovely rooftop bar, serving tapas, with stunning views.
Pousada do Boqueirão
Inn/Posada - SalvadorA converted Italian-owned town house close to the Pelourinho and full of character. It has a lovely spacious reception area, high ceilings and a mixture of interesting and colourful pictures and features. There is a bar and breakfast area, with a beautiful tiled floor, overlooking the Bay of All Saints.
Villa Bahia
City hotel - SalvadorAn immaculate hotel full of character at the heart of the Pelourinho and themed on the Portuguese spice route. French owned and run, it is charmingly decorated in a colonial style. There is a plunge pool, small breakfast room and an excellent restaurant open to the public.
Zank Hotel
City hotel - Rio VermelhoA stylish hotel in the bohemian neighbourhood of Rio Vermelho near to some of Salvador's best city beaches. This small, fashionable hotel has a 50's theme and vintage furniture throughout. There is a large, light restaurant, a spa, rooftop pool and hot tub with views of the ocean.
