Description

This remote yet cosy lodge is on the eastern shore of Lago del Desierto, and is reached by boat after a 37km drive north from El Chalten. There are stunning views towards the towering Fitzroy peaks and the western shores of the lake, over which the snow-capped peaks fo the Andes can be seen.

Activities

There are numerous walking trails in the hills that surround the hotel, which is on the 700 hectare Estancia Rio de las Vueltas. Fly fishing is possible in season (November to May), both on the lake and in the river that drains it (Rio de las Vueltas). This can also be a strategic point on an adventurous border crossing to or from Chile (ask us!).

If you like to feel close to nature and very disconnected from the rest of the world, this lodge should be high on your list. Very good food and service.

Aguas Arriba has a fabulous location and view, but we were a little surprised at the simplicity of the room, and the small bathroom. All the staff, waitresses, guides etc. were absolutely fantastic, which really made the experience. The food is simple, but good. - GB (December 2018)
