Flotel Piranha
Location
3 hours west of Manaus (Amazon lodges and cruises, Brazil)
Description
Sadly this lodge is currently closed.
This floating lodge is moved several times a year, depending on water levels, to ensure the optimal position for wildlife observation. Surrounding the main module are several other platforms built in traditional style with thatched rooves. These provide sitting areas, the kitchen, and a small vegetable garden.
Activities
Daily boat excursions. Pink river dolphins are often seen, as are their less shy cousin, the grey dolphin.
Accommodation
20 rooms on two floors, with an observation tower. Rooms have twin or double beds, and the bathrooms have just cold water. Rooms are netted and mosquito nets are provided.
Our comments
Swimming is not safe due to the large number of piranhas and black caimans. Probably the best lodge for wildlife due to the mixing of brown and black waters.
When to go
The lowest water is in November, the highest is in mid-June. The wet season is January-June, and is also the coolest time to visit.
Client comments and reviews
Flotel Piranha was brilliant. It was an amazing experience being where we were and we felt very privileged. The experience was made all the better for the staff at Flotel who made us feel welcome. - FK (May 2006)
