A lofty reception area is full of Brazilian artwork and the tropical décor is influenced by the Afro-Brazilian and ethnic Indian cultures. The pool and hot tub area has a long seated bar with excellent views over Rio. The main bar adjacent to the wonderful restaurant is perfect for a cool caipirinha.
Activities
Take a trip on Rio's iconic yellow tram, the oldest electric railway in Latin America; visit the art museum and the Parque das Ruinas; wander up the famous Selarón steps, featuring brightly coloured mosaic tiles.
Accommodation
There are 44 very comfortable, spacious rooms and suites, some of which have balconies. The Royal Suite is enormous and has a balcony with a panoramic view of Guanabara bay, and also a grand piano.
Our comments
A lovely hotel in the foothills of the Tijuca mountains. There are a number of steps on the property and the area in general is pretty hilly, but the hotel is within a few minutes' walk of bars and restaurants.
