A 3 hour drive south of Santiago, in the centre of Santa Cruz, this hotel is the perfect base from which to explore the Colchagua wine valley. The Colchagua museum (the largest private museum in Latin America) is behind the hotel.

Comfortable accommodation, in a colonial style building. Facilities include a choice of restaurants, pool and wine cellar.

Hotel Plaza Santa Cruz is superb with highly recommended restaurant. The local museum, that features everything you might want to know about Chile, is not to be missed (allow at least 90 minutes). Fantastic choice of top class vineyards but expect to pay up to £10 per person for a guided tour of the bodega (you can make an appointment at the hotel; we thought they were free but our hotel bill included an unexpected charge). Bodegas Santa Cruz, approx 30 minutes drive from the Hotel is spectacular. - RR (January 2007)
